HATHAWAY - The Hathaway High School (HHS) boys’ basketball squad tackled a physical J.S. Clark lineup on Friday night at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium. The Hornets knocked out the Bulldogs in an overtime tussle 70-63, putting Hathaway tied for first in the district 7-B race with J.S. Clark. The Bulldogs were previously unbeaten in league play.

Brister’s 27 leads Lady Tigers over Midland 66-34

LAKE ARTHUR – The No. 3 Lake Arthur Lady Tigers stepped out of district 6-2A play Friday night and hammered Class B’s No. 7-ranked Midland Lady Rebels by a final of 66-34. The win was Lake Arthur’s fourth in a row, and they improved to 22-4 overall. Midland fell to 15-16 overall with the loss. The Lady Tigers had three players hit the double figure mark in the win, led by another huge night by Deonna Brister, who popped in a game-high 27 points.

SEVEN STRAIGHT FOR ELTON

BASILE – The No. 1-ranked Elton Lady Indians stretched their winning streak to seven games last Friday night as they went on the road and chopped down rival Basile by a final of 74-40. The Lady Indians placed four players in double figures in the lopsided win, and upped their overall record to 16-7, 8-1 in district 4-1A play. Elton is still locked in a tie for the district lead with No. 4 Merryville after the two split their two league games head-to-head. Basile continued to struggle in league play, falling to 7-17 overall, 0-8 in 4-1A.
