La. Congressman-elect Luke Letlow dead from COVID-19

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Luke Letlow, Louisiana’s incoming Republican member of the U.S. House, died Tuesday night from complications related to COVID-19 only days before he would have been sworn into office. He was 41.

It’s with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Eleuterio “Raul” Villanueva announce the passing of their loved one from this life on Dec. 28, 2020 at the age of 58. Funeral services for Eleuterio “Raul” Villanueva, 58, of Jennings will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings at noon on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, from 4-8 p.m. and will resume Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, from 8 a.m. until the time of his service. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Nashville man’s girlfriend warned he was building bombs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — More than a year before Anthony Warner detonated a bomb in downtown Nashville on Christmas, officers visited his home after his girlfriend told police that he was building bombs in an RV trailer at his residence, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press. But they were unable to make contact with him, or see inside his RV.

GRAND LAKE (AP) — Most couples might have wondered whether the forces of nature were against them after moving their wedding three times because of the pandemic and two hurricanes that hit almost the exact same spot within weeks of one another.

The year 2020 will certainly be one for the history books. COVID brought illness, death, quarantines, phases and mandates. Hurricanes Laura and Delta brought destruction and debris. Let’s not forget a contentious political year and a wild presidential election.

US stocks open broadly higher as trading for 2020 winds down

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher on Wall Street, putting the market back on a positive footing following a modest pullback the day before. The S&P 500 rose 0.4 percent in the early going Wednesday. Small-company stocks again outpaced their larger rivals, as they have been doing all month. That’s a sign that investors are feeling more optimistic about the economy. Investors were encouraged to see that Britain had authorized a coronavirus vaccine from Oxford University and AstraZeneca which is easier to handle than others. European markets were slightly lower and Asian markets ended broadly higher. Treasury yields held steady.
