No tires, tubes to be sold for 10 days

Jennings and Jeff Davis autoists who need a tire or a tube are just out of luck. Sale of either was forbidden by national orders starting this morning and the ban will be in effect until December 22 when a ration system will be in effect.

The drastic order became effective with the changed Pacific outlook and because this country has only a year's supply of raw rubber on hand and this will be needed for the military.

LAKE ARTHUR CELEBRATES SEASON

The glitter of lights and the possibility of seeing Santa Claus brought out several hundred folks from the Lake Arthur area Tuesday night.

The main purpose of the event was for the lighting of the big oak tree and the arrival of Old St. Nick.

The weather was appropriate — cold and a bit windy — but this did not in any way diminish the holiday spirit of the crowd who had come to sing, listen and enjoy.

Limited market now open for Louisiana armadillo

There is finally a market, even if somewhat limited, for armadillos. Mayor John Conner is in need of one whose carcass is in good shape, preferably alive.

The need stems from a request from the mayor of Allison, Iowa, which reads as follows:

"ToYour Honor, Mayor of Jennings: No doubt, you will think I have a queer request. While traveling through your part of the country a year or so ago, I noticed a number of armadillos lying along the roadsides as though killed by passing automobiles.

Jennings Cavalry will be organized

Acting under orders of Brigadier General Louis A. Toombs, adjutant general, Captain O.W. Deslatte, inspector general for Louisiana National Guards, arrived in Jennings this morning to act in the matter of organizing a Cavalry troop. Lieutenant Roy S. Miller of the Headquarters troop of the famous Rainbow Division, American Expeditionary Forces, has accepted the captaincy of the troop.

Warn boys stealing Christmas lights

Dec. 16, 1941 Mayor Overton Gauthier today warned that complaints were coming to the city hall that boys were stealing colored bulbs from lighted Christmas trees and warned that any person caught in such vandalism will be arrested.

Given up for dead for a quarter of a century, Mrs. Lilly Mae Gibson, of Keysville, near Tampa, Florida, surprised her brother, O.C. Tupper, of this city this week when she came to the brother's home from Florida to pay a long delayed visit to local relatives, whom she had not seen for twenty-nine years.

Parking meters start operating Friday morning

Motorists who plan to park downtown tomorrow will have to come with pennies or nickels.

For Friday morning at 8 o'clock, Jennings' new parking meters go into operation. One cent will buy 12 minutes of parking time. The meters will accept a maximum of 10 cents, which is good for two consecutive hours of parking pleasure.

The meters accept only pennies and nickels. A glass window on each meter will allow local law enforcement officers to detect the use of slugs.

Pandemic cancels St. James Christmas Eve bonfire celebration

CONVENT (AP) — A Louisiana parish canceled their annual Christmas Eve bonfire celebration due to an increase in coronavirus cases, officials said.

Trump looks past Supreme Court loss to new election lawsuit

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to let him join a lawsuit challenging election results in Pennsylvania and other states that he lost, a day after the justices rejected a last-gasp bid to reverse Pennsylvania’s certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.
