Break-in reported at God’s Pantry

A break-in at a local nonprofit was reported last week.

God’s Pantry Director Vicky Rushing said that last week someone attempted to steal a $7,000 compressor and broke into a shed behind the building.

“They damaged the compressor and now one of our fridges is not working,” she said. “We called the sheriff’s office, but so far, we have been unable to identify the suspects.”

The suspects were caught on security cameras that are located around the perimeter of the building.

OXFORD, Miss. – The LSU men’s basketball team led for 39:36 seconds in a dominating road win performance Saturday night over the Ole Miss Rebels, 75-61.

LSU is now 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Southeastern Conference as LSU won for the third straight year in The Pavilion Ole Miss falls to 6-4 and 1-2 in the league.

(AP) - The NFL has never seen a playoff matchup quite like the upcoming one between Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Drew Brees’ New Orleans Saints.

A pair of quarterbacks in their 40s still thriving on the playoff stage at an age when nearly every other great passer in NFL history was already enjoying retirement.

Brees will take the field for the Saints on Sunday two days after turning 42 as the young gun in this matchup against the 43-year-old Brady, who has shattered nearly every record for longevity in the NFL.

Christon lifts Grambling past Alcorn St. 79-74

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) — Cameron Christon tied his career high with 24 points as Grambling narrowly defeated Alcorn State 79-74 on Tuesday night.

Terreon Randolph had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Grambling (4-6, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Reyhan Cobb added 10 points and eight rebounds. Trevell Cunningham distributed 11 of Grambling’s seasonhigh 20 assists.

Grambling State scored a season-high 44 points after intermission.

Kurk Lee had 20 points and six assists for the Braves (0-6, 0-1). Troymain Crosby added 18 points and Tyree Corbett 15.

North Carolina plays 1,000th ACC game, beats Syracuse 81-75

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot each had a double-double, and North Carolina pulled away in the last three minutes to beat Syracuse 81-75 on Tuesday night.

The Tar Heels (8-4, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) became the first men’s basketball program to play 1,000 regular-season ACC games. The Tar Heels are 708-292 and have the most wins in ACC history.

Brooks scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds. Bacot had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Bacot has 14 doubledoubles and 19 games with 10 or more rebounds. R.J. Davis added 12 points.

It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Juanita Marie Lopez announces her passing from this life on Jan. 11, 2021, at the age of 89.

Funeral services were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at 2 p.m., with Deacon Mike Tramel officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her service at 2 p.m., with a rosary recited at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow in Bertrand Cemetery.
