Average US price of gas up 9 cents a gallon to $2.35

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average U.S. price of regular-grade gasoline jumped 9 cents a gallon over the past three weeks to $2.35.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday that a rise in crude oil prices spurred the increase.

The price at the pump is 30 cents less than it was a year ago.

The highest average price in the nation is $3.40 a gallon in the San Francisco Bay Area. The lowest average is $1.90 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Former lawmaker only candidate to run for vacant House seat

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A former state lawmaker appears to be returning to the Louisiana House without an election after no one else signed up to run against him for the vacant seat.

Republican Rep. Brett Geymann of Lake Charles was the only contender to sign up for the special election for the District 35 seat representing Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes before the three-day qualifying period closed Friday, according to information from the secretary of state’s office.

Tulane University designated to distribute COVID-19 vaccine

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tulane University has been designated as a COVID-19 vaccine provider.

The Louisiana Department of Health announced Friday that it has allowed Tulane to become one of the first universities in the state to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. Under the designation, Tulane will be able to receive the vaccine directly from manufacturers so they will be able to rapidly mobilize staff members to provide the vaccine to those in the university community who are eligible.
