One unlucky Republic Services driver found himself sitting in the hot seat – literally – when his garbage truck caught fire on Friday. The truck was able to be driven a short distance to the Jennings Fire Department where firefighters jumped into action to douse the flames. Jennings Police Department also responded to the incident.

Registration open for charity gleaux run

LAFAYETTE — The community is invited to join Miles Perret Cancer Services in lighting up the night sky for the 21st annual Camellia Crossing: Acadiana’s Gleaux Run. This nighttime 5K and one-mile fun run will take place on the night before Thanksgiving on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at River Ranch Town Square, located at 1100 Camellia Blvd.

New campaign encourages motorists to help prevent roadside litter

BATON ROUGE — Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser are proud to introduce the “Put the Brakes on Litter” campaign in partnership with the Louisiana Automobile Dealer Association. This campaign will distribute litter kits and educational signage to participating car dealerships in Louisiana to educate motorists on the importance of roadside litter prevention.

To make a long story brief, the Great American Seafood Cook-Off (GASCO) in New Orleans, in conjunction with the Louisiana Restaurant Association Showcase, was a foodie’s paradise.

School is in session

It is officially back-to-school season in Jeff Davis Parish with many students having returned to the classroom on Friday. Social media feeds were inundated with bright-eyed youngsters donning their new school attire, as well as students who were less enthusiastic about a new school year.
