Fall is a season of cooler temperatures and changing leaves, and it also marks the return of autumn flavor profiles. Root vegetables, roasts and heartier fare are prime cooking ingredients this time of year. In terms of baking, treats spiced with ginger and cinnamon are in demand each fall.

Why do we say ‘trick or treat’?

Homeowners think nothing of having goblins, nurses, vampires, or astronauts showing up at their doors each October asking for candy. Any other time of the year and these visitors might be turned away. But Halloween is all about the magical and the macabre, and trick-or-treating is a major component of the festivities.

Events run in the order of their posted dates and ONLY AS SPACE ALLOWS. Events more than two weeks away may not run until closer to the event. Surgical comorbidities increase as people age

Dear Doctor: Can you please talk about the risks to older patients with comorbidities when they’re going to have surgery? My sister, who was older and ailing, had a joint replacement surgery. It was done by a very good surgeon and at a good hospital, but she didn’t survive to walk again.

Jennings Rotary Club Welcomes Guest Speaker

District 4 Police Juror Kori Myers was the guest speaker at the Jennings Rotary meeting on Oct. 12. She is the first woman to serve on the police jury.

Ms. Myers explained the juror’s duties, committees and projects planned for the parish such as broadband, water infrastructure, and a website.
