KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS

Knights of Columbus Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings conducted its Centennial Celebration Banquet Nov. 19. It was officially founded on July 20, 1919.

Glenn McFarlain served as master of ceremonies. Horace Naquin, Post commander of James O. Hall American Legion Post 19, led all in attendance with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The Louisiana state chaplain for the American Legion, Sam Doucet, gave the benediction.

LaFleur, Harmon exchange vows of marriage

Maegan Lynne LaFleur of Crowley and Peter Warren Harmon of Oneida, New York, were married on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at The Warehouse in Rayne.

Dona and Tripp Smith officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Tom and Debbie LaFleur of Crowley and the granddaughter of J.W. Breaux of Gueydan and Judy Broussard of Rayne and the late Charles Broussard and Paul and Jackie LaFleur.

She is a 2007 graduate of Notre Dame High School and South La. Community College.

Daybreak and oxygen

Is that redundant? If one has no oxygen, there is no daybreak.

When I was in college there were those who would ask me if I was on something. Certainly, in the late 60’s and early 70’s, there were all kinds of psychotrophic drugs that were experimented with on college campuses. The least of these was marijuana. In modern times, it is “vaping.” You don’t have be a rocket scientist to know that anything that has an ingredient that comes in a 55-gallon drum and the name “propylene glycol” on its side can’t be good for you. No, I would always say that oxygen was enough.

Welsh Rotary Club welcomes guests

The Rotary Club of Welsh met on Nov. 14 and the guests were fifth graders (shown below, from left) Davonni Brown, Kynnedy Nunn and Sophie Ramagos, who led the pledge. J’ani Pitre and Ryland Pitre, both seniors at Welsh High, spoke to the members about their recent trip to Boys/Girls State. The Rotary Club wrote a grant and raised money to buy 20 VHF pagers for the fire department. These were presented to John Hall, Fire Chief (above, center). Pictured with John Hall are Dave Lejeune (left), Past President and Pat Deshotel (right), club President. John is holding one of the pagers.

Club hosts Kinder Morgan employees

Roderick Bourgeois and Anthony Babineaux were the Jennings Rotary Club guest speakers Nov. 19. Both are employees of Kinder Morgan, one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America. Roderick gave a demo about gas analysis and safety in the home and workplace.
