Trump to kick off NYC Veterans Day Parade, offer tribute

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will speak at the opening ceremony of the New York City Veterans Day Parade next week as he returns to a city he no longer calls home, organizers and the White House announced Wednesday.

United War Veterans Council Chairman Douglas McGowan said Trump will offer a tribute to veterans ahead of Monday’s 100th annual parade.

While presidents have always been invited, McGowan said that, as far as he knows, Trump is the first to accept.

Jeff Davis Volunteers for Families and Community Divas decided with the changing of the weather to cooler temperatures that the elderly needed things to keep them warm. Volunteers delivered heaters and blankets to Director Helen Langley at Council on Aging, including Carol Perry, Jackie Brown, Anne Arceneaux, Langley, Karen Daigle and Rhonda Talley. VFC Divas also delivered coats for all ages to Jennings Tire Center for the “Coats for Kids” drive.

Lu earns Franks Scholarship for optometry

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE – Terry Lu of Jennings was recently honored with the Dr. Mark W. Franks and Mary Franks Scholarship at Southern College of Optometry.

Established by the late Dr. and Mrs. Mark Franks through the Optometry Association of Louisiana, the award recognizes deserving Louisiana students and assists with their pursuit of a private practice career.

The award comes with a $12,000 monetary award to support the recipient’s optometric education.

Lu is a graduate of McNeese State University.
