HATHAWAY — While a handful of high school athletes may sign with a college and a few may join a team as a walk-on, it’s widely known that many high school athletes do not pursue athletic careers in college. As they begin a new chapter of their lives, most devote their time to academic goals in pursuit of a degree. A fair argument can be made that participation in sports and clubs in high school prepares a student for a smoother transition from high school to college with a list full of valuable lessons and work ethics acquired through such involvement. Time management skills, leadership skills, accountability and responsibility would be included on such a list.

LACASSINE — In today’s world of sports, a lot of athletes enjoy bringing attention to themselves through trash talking, bat flips when a homerun is hit or just an heir of cockiness that used to not be tolerated. Gone are the days where humbleness was portrayed more than the flamboyant personalities of the times now. However, for one two-sport standout at Lacassine High School (LHS), it’s the only way he carries himself. Seth Bourgeois is an incoming senior at LHS, and also has made is mark on both the basketball court and baseball field as a Cardinal. Whether he’s dishing out assists on the hardwood or spraying line drives all over the park on the diamond, Bourgeois prefers to let his bat and jump shot do the talking for him. Bourgeois has found his name on multiple All-District and All-Parish teams in both baseball and Basketball, however he explained he still prefers to stay out of the limelight and just help his teams win without the publicity.
