Bulldogs make it five straight

The Jennings Bulldogs made it five straight Monday night by hammering the Central Catholic Eagles 10-0 in six innings at Danny Reed Field in a non-district clash. The big win moved the Dogs up to 10-11 overall, but more importantly Jennings has found its way into the Top-10 in 3A following the victory. The Dogs jumped three spots to No. 10 going into their Tuesday league showdown with the South Beauregard Knights. Ethan Jardell and John Mason Futch combined to toss a one-hitter against the Eagles Monday night, while the Jennings bats pounded out seven hits to keep their streak alive.

Tigers down Crowley 5-1 behind Borel’s gem

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers picked up a big 5-1 victory over the Crowley Gents on Monday at Dicky Chapman Memorial Complex. The Tigers used a one-hitter by pitcher Kheldon Borel, and pounded out nine hits in securing the win. The Tigers moved their record to 13-8 overall, and currently sit at No. 20 in the Class 2A power ratings.

Doise, Freeland to represent JDP in state shooting competition

On Friday, two Jefferson Davis Parish 4-H members, Gus Doise and Barrett Freeland, participated in the 2022 Southern Regional Junior Advanced Shotgun Competition that was held in Port Allen. Out of the 62 shooters that competed in the event, Doise and Freeland are among the 17 shooters that will advance to state.

Diamond Dogs earn sweep of LCCP

The Jennings Bulldogs swept a district 4-3A doubleheader over the Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP) Trailblazers on Saturday at Danny Reed Field. The Dogs won the first contest in walk-off fashion 4-3, then knocked off the Blazers 12-6 in the second contest. With the pair of wins, Jennings improved to 9-11 overall, 4-2 in league play. The victories also allowed the Bulldogs to jump to No. 13 in the latest Class 3A power ratings. Jennings was back in action on Monday afternoon in a non-district tilt with Central Catholic of Morgan City before returning to 4-3A action today when they travel to South Beauregard.

Hayes’ late homer lifts Welsh over Lacassine 6-5

The Welsh Lady Greyhounds picked up a big win on Thursday afternoon when they were able to top the Lacassine Lady Cardinals by a final of 6-5 in non-district softball action. The contest was tied 4-4 going into the top of the sixth inning, however a 2-run homer off the bat of Alexis Hayes gave Welsh a lead that would be enough in the end. With the win, Welsh improved to 12-8 overall, while Lacassine dropped to 16-6.

Lacassine polishes off sweep of Bell City with 8-4 win

The Lacassine Cardinals finished off a season sweep of rival Bell City on Thursday afternoon by spanking the Bruins 8-4 at Legion Field in Jennings. The Cardinals banged out nine hits, and used a big second inning to claim the win. Lacassine improves to 7-11 overall, 3-1 in district 7-B. The Cards wrapped up district play with the win, and are in the driver’s seat to claim the league title. Payton Miller piced up the win on the mound for Lacassine, while Kole Bourgeois came on in relief to earn the save.
