Coming off of a good preseason campaign in which the Jennings Bulldogs battled the 5A Barbe Bucs and the Sam Houston Broncos, the Dogs are now set to turn their attention to the season-opener against the Iowa Yellow Jackets. The two teams have squared off a total of 29 times in the history of the schools, with Jennings holding an 18-11 edge over the Jackets. Iowa has won the last three contests including a nail-biter last season in Jerry Simmons Stadium. The Jackets lost quite a few players from last year’s squad but according to Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier, the Jackets are just as strong this season.

SULPHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed out their preseason slate Friday night by competing at the Sulphur Jamboree at Matt Walker Stadium against former district mate Grand Lake. The Tigers used a strong outing and fended off a late Hornet drive to claim a 21-14 win in the abbreviated game. The two teams played a pair of 15-minute quarters in the contest, with the Tigers finding the endzone three times. The Lake Arthur defense came up with a huge stop at the end of the contest as Grand Lake had the football in the red zone but the Tigers came with a stop on downs with just 10 seconds left to play.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds got their first look at hitting someone other than themselves Friday night when they hosted the East Beauregard Trojans in a scrimmage. The Hounds had their way with the Trojans, as they amassed 321 yards rushing with the first unit and 145 stripes through the air to go along with five touchdowns.
