The first parish tennis tournament was held at Jennings High School on April 26th and 27th. Four parish high schools participated, which included 55 individuals from Hathaway, Jennings, Lacassine, and Welsh. “The purpose of the tournament is to give exposure to the best players in the parish,” said JHS coach Jared Lavergne. “As coaches, we didn’t want to decide for ourselves; we wanted the players to play for their spots.” For each team win, the respective school earns one team point. On the girls side, Welsh was first with 9 points, Jennings came in second with 7 points, followed by Lacassine with 5 points. For boys, Jennings finished first with 11 points, Hathaway was second with 4 points, followed by Welsh with 3 points. “Many parents and players thought the parish tournament was a great idea. We look forward to hosting it again next year.”
