Lady Hornets fly past Lady Cards, 88-33

HATHAWAY — The Hathaway Lady Hornets put on a shooting display at home against the Lacassine Lady Cardinals by nailing down a whopping 13 3-pointers in a lopsided 88-33 win at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium. The win moves the Lady Hornets out to 16-15 overall, and moved them to No. 5 in the latest Division V non-select power ratings. Lacassine dropped to 14-18 on the year, and currently sit at No. 26 in Division V.

LAKE ARTHUR — The fans who attended the Welsh Greyhounds at the Lake Arthur Tigers basketball game got their money’s worth Friday night in “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium. The district game between the two parish rivals had 23 lead changes and was tied 13 times. Welsh made a trey at the buzzer to tie the game 67 all and send it into overtime. Welsh led 76-74 with six seconds left, and the Tigers tying shot rimmed out to give the Hounds the key district win.

CROWLEY — The Crowley Millers captured the District 7 Championship Wednesday night by defeating the Opelousas Indians by a final of 5-4 in a thrilling ball game. The win upped the Millers overall record to 13-4 and finished the league sweep of the Indians. The Millers will now set their sights on the state tournament held at “Tigue” Moore Field on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette starting July 13th.

Millers run through Opelousas in district opener, 16-6

CROWLEY — After suffering a pair of set backs over the weekend to the Southland Hogs and Lafayette Drillers, the Crowley Millers bounced back in a big way Tuesday night with a District 7 opening win over the talented Opelousas Indians by score of 16-6. The win leaves the Millers at 8-2 overall and the team was back in action Wednesday night against Beau Chene then travel to Shreveport to compete in the Benton High School Invitational. The Millers pounded out 11 hits in the win and used a gutsy start from Lon Paul Moody on the mound to earn the win. Jennings’ John Mason Futch came out of the bullpen and picked up two big outs to thwart an Opelousas threat in the top of the sixth inning. Moody went 5.1 innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and struck out five. Futch came on to face two hitters and earned a strikeout of his own to get out of a bases loaded jam.
