The middle of February means only one thing for girls’ basketball coaches, players and fans of the sport at this time. It’s playoff basketball at its finest. As is the case in most seasons here in Jeff Davis Parish (JDP), there are a plethora of extremely talented teams eyeing more trips to the State Basketball Tournament on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University. Just a year ago, the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers hoisted their Class 2A state championship trophy after topping the Doyle Lady Tigers right in their back yard. The Lady Tigers garnered a No. 5 overall seed with a brilliant 23-6 overall mark, and claimed a share of the 6-2A crown with powerful Lafayette Christian. The Lady Tigers will play host to No. 28 Madison at 6pm at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium in the bi-district round. Lake Arthur Head Coach Vickie Sketoe discussed her team’s regular season, and raved about the job her Lady Tigers have done.
