Second-half surge propels No.5 LA to 55-33 win over Lady Hounds

WELSH – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers broke open a tight game at the half against the feisty Welsh Lady Greyhounds, and exploded in the second half to take a 55-33 district 6-2A win. The victory moves the No.5 Lady Tigers out to 19-5 overall, 2-0 in league play. The Lady Hounds fell to 8-16, 1-1 in 6-2A action. With the Lady Tigers clinging to a 22-18 advantage at the break, Lake Arthur exploded to outgun Welsh 33-15 in the final two frames to claim the 22-point win.

Hounds too much for LA in JDP rivalry game

WELSH – The Welsh Greyhounds used a trio of big scoring nights to take down the Lake Arthur Tigers by a final of 58-49 in a key district showdown at Greyhound Gymnasium. The loss negated outstanding evenings from Kenyon Boese and Ray Levi, who combined to score 41 for the Tigers in the loss. Welsh upped its’ overall record to 9-11 overall, while Lake Arthur fell to 9-10 on the season. Welsh edged the Tigers in the first three lowscoring periods, until both teams broke loose in a wild fourth quarter.

Cardinals slip past Hathaway, 68-62

LACASSINE – The Lacassine Cardinals made it 12 straight wins here Wednesday night at John Juneau Gymnasium, however it wasn’t an easy one. The No. 4-ranked Cards scooted past the Hathaway Hornets by a final of 68-62 to move their overall record to 23-5, 3-0 in 6-B action. With the loss, the Hornets dropped to 5-16 overall on the season.

No. 6 Elton knocks off 4A power Washington-Marion, 69-59

ELTON – The Elton Indians stepped up in class Tuesday night and defeated 4A perennial power Washington-Marion by a final of 69-59 at Oris Guidry Gymnasium on the campus of Elton High School. The non-district win moves the No.6-ranked Indians out to 13-6 overall as they prepare to start a rigorous 4-1A district slate. Elton used a big first and third quarter to ultimately stave off the Chargin’ Indians. The Indians placed three players in double figures, led by Damarcus Jack and Jadon Ross who combined for 41 points in the win.

No. 4 Lady Dogs crush LCCP, 67-27

LAKE CHARLES – The No.4-ranked Jennings Lady Bulldogs made quick work of the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers (LCCP) Tuesday night by earning a 67-27 beat down in 4-3A action. With the win, Jennings hit the 20-win plateau and now stand at 20-6, 1-1 in league play. Senior Jill Fontenot had a huge night for the Lady Dogs with her 25 points, while Anna Trahan also hit double digits with 11 in the win. The Lady Dogs raced out to a 43-11 lead after the first half ended, and never looked back in the blowout victory.

Guidry, Suire lead HHS to win over Lady Cards

LACASSINE – The Hathaway Lady Hornets continued to pummel opponents on the hardwood, and remain perfect in district 6-B play by disposing of the rival Lady Cardinals by a final of 86-39 at John Juneau Gymnasium. The Lady Hornet shooters continued to scorch the nets by canning a whopping 19 3-point buckets in the contest. Hathaway used the scoring of Chloey Guidry, Madison Suire and Sienna Guidry to pace the Lady Hornets to the 47-point win. The trio combined for 70 of Hathaway’s 86 points. The win moved the Lady Hornets out to 24-4 overall, 3-0 in 6-B play. Lacassine fell to 14-11 overall, 1-1 in league action.

Dogs fall just short to LCCP, 56-55

LAKE CHARLES – The Jennings Bulldogs fell just short in their bid of an upset win over the Lake Charles College Prep Trailblazers (LCCP) Tuesday night in Lake Charles, as they fell by a final of 56-55. The loss overshadowed a pair of terrific nights by Chance Levi and Zae Douglas, whoe combined for 41 of the Dogs’ 55 points. Trailing 36-30 at the half, Jennings rallied in the third and fourth period, however came up just a point shy of claiming their district-opening win. With the loss, Jennings fell to 8-7 overall, 0-1 in 4-3A play, while the Trailblazers improved to 13-6 overall.
