LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed out their regular season strong Friday night by blasting the Vinton Lions by a final score of 50-6 at Jack Doland Stadium. Lake Arthur would score their 50 points in the first half of football and coast to the easy 44-point win. The win ends the Tigers’ regular season at 6-4, and garnered them a No. 19 seed in the Division IV non-select playoffs where they are matched up with No. 14 Montgomery in the opening round.

SULPHUR — The No. 6-ranked Jennings Bulldogs and No.7 St. Louis Catholic Saints tied into a defensive slugfest here Friday night from Matt Walker Stadium. However, it was one big play that ultimately lifted the Saints to a 7-0 victory in the two teams’ season finale. The Dogs finish the regular season at 7-3 overall, 4-2 in district 3-3A play. The Bulldogs may drop a few spots in the upcoming power ratings, however it’s a done deal for Jennings to host a playoff game next week from the friendly confines of Jerry Simmons Stadium. “This one was a tough one to lose, but the bottom line is we have got to find a way to win games like this,” said Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier. “We have got to do a better job of getting off the field on defense, especially on third downs, and offensively we have got to find a way to finish drives when we get down in the red zone. But, we’ll rebound and be ready to go next week when it’s playoff time.”

On top of the streak, the No.8ranked Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight contests to allow them to climb into the Top-10 in the latest Division II non-select power ratings. The Dogs are sitting at 7-2 overall, 4-1 in league play, while the Saints match-up with the Dogs’ identical record. The Bulldogs come into the contest firing on all cylinders, especially since improving throughout the season on the offensive end of things.

Welsh has never been the favorite against the Pioneers and this year will be no different. The Greyhounds dropped their first two games of the season and since have reeled off seven consecutive wins to carry a 7-2 record into the league clash.
