Confederate vets to meet in LC

Calcasieu Camp No. 62, U.C.V., the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the two local chapters of the U.D.C., have about completed their preparations to entertain the Louisiana Division of the United Confederate Veterans at their annual reunion Oct. 25 and 26. In this work they have had the cordial aid and support of all of the citizens.

92-year-old W.R. Garman not to make annual reunion trip to Kansas so ‘soldiers can use the trains’

Ninety-two-year-old W.R. Garman, of this city, has reluctantly foregone his annual trip to Kansas this year to attend the annual reunion of his kinsmen because he says “the government is asking people to not to travel on the railroads and take space from the soldiers.”

Jeff Davis Parish News August 31, 1943 Funeral rites for Adam Esterly, 89, for 54 years a resident of this parish, were held Sunday afternoon at 3 from the Roanoke Church of the Brethren, of which he was a charter member, with Rev. J.F. Hoke, assisted by Rev. J.B. Firestone, officiating and burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery with the Miguez Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were L.O. Jackson, E.F Henning, Joseph Hinchliffe, Jesse Bowers, R.M. Harris and J.I. Lewis.

New funeral home to open in Jaenke property on Davies Avenue

JEFF DAVIS PARISH NEWS October 22, 1935 Adam Miguez, veteran Jennings embalmer and funeral director, has purchased the business of the Gimbel Funeral Home from F.J. Gimbel, who has conducted a mortuary here for the last twenty-five years. Mr. Gimbel will retire from the under-taking business and devote his future to his other private interests.

Foreman’s body to arrive on Friday

Jennings Daily News Wednesday, October 20, 1948 Remains of PFC Cyril C. Foreman, who was killed during the Philippine Invasion, will be returned Friday afternoon at 1:20 over the Southern Pacific. The body will be met by VFW escorts and taken to the Miguez Funeral Home where prayer services are to be held. The cortege will then go to the Indian Bayou Methodist church were services will be conducted with Rev. Sam Nader, officiating.

Joseph Doucet, never conscious since wreck injury Wednesday, succumbs Friday night

Jennings Daily News Monday, January 3, 1949 Joseph Doucet, 25-year-old Elton man, died at the Jennings Hospital at 9:15 Friday night, soon after he had undergone a delicate operation to remove blood clots from his brain. The operation was preformed while Doucet lay in an iron lung in which he had been placed since brought to the hospital from Eunice.

Jeff Davis Parish News Thursday, December 12, 1935 Nelson Lloyd Miller, pioneer resident of this section and editor of the Lake Arthur Herald, died Wednesday night at 11:30 at the Parish Hospital. Mr. Miller was a Jennings newspaper publisher over a period of 31 years, from 1896 to 1925.
