The third annual fair of the Agricultural Society was organized in 1884 by the Northern Settlers. The first fair was held in the S.P. Depot while the second and third year were held in the school building which was moved to south Jennings.

Al Capone goes through city on prison special’

Only one or two persons besides the railroad officials here got a glimplse of the celebrated Al Capone and other notorious feeder prisoners when they went through this city about 11 o'clock Sunday on a special Southern Pacific train.

The original home for KJEF was located on the west side of La. 26 south heading toward Lake Arthur. This undated picture from the 1940’s includes Max Thomas, the original owner, along with his father and brother the day the station went on the air.

‘Phantom’ arrested, returned here

JEFF DAVIS PARISH NEWS Jan. 11, 1944 Lester Martin, famed 'Phantom' robber, who made a sensational escape from the Jeff Davis Parish jail last July 25, was captured Friday night at Beaumont and returned here by O.J. Hebert, state patrolman, and Louis de Launday, deputy sheriff, Azenor Buller, sheriff, announced today.
