2,000 view first night ball game

Jennings baseball fans were initiated in night baseball last night when approximately 2,000 persons crowded the grandstands and taking up all available "standing" room on the side walks and side lines, many remaining remaining in their cars from where they could witness the playing.

Elton Mardi Gras to make cable television feature

ELTON - It may not seem strange to the people of South Louisiana, but apparently the tradition of Mardi Gras here has attracted national attention.

Masquerade Ball Delightful Event

To the strains of music rendered by a string band from Lafayette, over half a hundred couples “tripped the light fantastic toe” in the W.O.W. hall last night from 8 oblock until after the midnight hour — the occasion being the initial masquerade ball of the 1913 Mardi Gras season, and it proved a most delightful event, a real treat to the many young ladies and gentlemen who participated in the pleasures of the evening. The ball was given under the auspices of Meneau Tribe No 24 Improved Order of Red Men.

Grand Marais crew makes annual run

The traditions of Mardi Gras continued throughout Jeff Davis Parish as the Grand Marais Mardi Gras took to the streets Saturday for a chicken run.

KJEF gets full time broadcast permission

The Federal Communications Commission has granted radio station KJEF full time broadcasting facilities, Clovis Bailey, manager of the local station, announced today.

Notice of the full time grant came yesterday afternoon from Arthur W Scharfeld, Washington attorney for the radio station.

Bailey said that application was applied for eighteen months ago. Station KJEF will be affiliated with the American Broadcasting Company.

Mrs. Daughenbaugh dies on 96th birthday

Mrs. M.A. Daughenbaugh, the oldest citizen of the parish, died at 2:10 oblock this afternoon, on the 96th anniversary of her birth. She had made a last wish that she wanted to live to see this birthday and wanted to stay the hand of death until she could hear the election returns.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 oblock Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Church with Rev. W.R. Wendt officiating and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

TERRIBLE DISASTER

The most terrible accident that has ever happened in Jennings occurred this morning about 8 °block when a brick wall collapsed and killed D.F. Tilbury, Joseph Murrey and Richard Montagne.

The three men each lived a short while after the accident, Mr. Murrey dying in about 10 minutes, Mr. Tilbury in about 40 minutes and Mr. Montagne slightly more than an hour after being hurt.
