Asian shares jump on US Fed’s rate cut bandwagon

BANGKOK (AP) — Shares surged Wednesday in Asia following a rally on Wall Street spurred by signs the Federal Reserve is ready to cut interest rates to support the U.S. economy against risks from escalating trade wars.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index jumped 1.8 percent to 20,773.86 while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong advanced 0.7 percent to 26,953.77. The Shanghai Composite index gained 0.6 percent to 2,880.18 and Australia’s S&P ASX 200 climbed 0.6 percent to 6,367.20. South Korea’s Kospi added 0.2 percent to 2,071.06. Shares also rose in Taiwan and Southeast Asia.

Queen, world leaders honor veterans on D-Day anniversary

PORTSMOUTH, England (AP) — Queen Elizabeth II and world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump gathered Wednesday on the south coast of England to honor the troops who risked and sacrificed their lives 75 years ago on D-Day, a bloody but ultimately triumphant turning point in World War II.

Across the Channel, American and British paratroopers dropped into northwestern France and scaled cliffs beside Normandy beaches, recreating the daring, costly invasion that helped liberate Europe from Nazi occupation.

However, hosting the best-of-three series that will ultimately send either the Tigers or Florida State Seminoles to Omaha is even more surprising. Just three weeks before, the Tigers were being left for dead following a less than impressive 2019 season. The Tigers were the unanimous preseason No. 1 team in the country, but injuries over the course of the season depleted what Head Coach Paul Mainieri called “the best pitching staff” he’s ever had.

Vegas, baby! SEC, Big Ten to share bowl spot in new stadium

(AP) - The Big Ten and SEC will soon be heading to the Las Vegas Bowl, taking turns facing the Pac-12 when the game moves into a new billion-dollar NFL stadium in 2020.

The Big Ten, Southeastern Conference and Big 12 unveiled bowl lineups for the 2020-25 seasons Tuesday. Other FBS conferences are expected to release their future bowl agreements over the next several weeks.
