Stop! Washing your turkey could spread germs

NEW YORK (AP) — Go ahead and rinse your cranberries, potatoes and green beans. But food say experts say don’t — repeat don’t — wash the turkey before popping it in the oven on Thanksgiving Day.

They say that could spread the germs lurking on your turkey in the kitchen sink or nearby food. But it’s been a challenge trying to convince cooks to stop rinsing off raw poultry.

Community rallies to spread Christmas spirit

The Garden Club takes on the task of decorating Main Street and Founder’s Park, however this year the organization was faced with a dilemma.

“We were in need of new, updated decorations for the holidays,” said interior designer Margie Guidry. “The problem was, we were short on funds.”

A sleepless night for Guidry resulted in a solution for a way to raise money for the cause.

WELSH - The lack of an offense has hampered the Welsh Greyhounds all season and Friday night was no different, as the Hounds dropped a 26-0 decision to the Amite Warriors in the regional round of the class 2-A non-select state playoffs. The Greyhound defense performed admirably, but got little help from their offense and consequently had to stay on the field far too long.

DA lists recent convictions

District Attorney Michael C. Cassidy announced the following convictions recently obtained during the criminal petit jury Nov. 18 session in the 31st District Judicial District Court in Jennings.

• Caleb Osborne Talbert, of Lake Charles, pled no contest to attempted manslaughter. A pre-sentence report was ordered and his sentencing date was set for March 2, 2020.
