LA. MOTOR VEHICLES OFFICE EXPECTED TO REOPEN NEXT WEEK

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Branch offices of Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles are on track to reopen next week when officials are expected to complete repairs on computer systems damaged by a cyberattack, Gov. John Bel Edwards said Thursday.

Motor vehicle offices around the state have been shuttered all week, disrupting Louisiana drivers’ ability to renew licenses and registrations and obtain other services.

Renovations have been underway for several months now at a formerly dilapidated structure on Main Street in Jennings.

Surprisingly, it’s not a new business coming to the city. The building has become home for Justin Krielow and Nicholas Williams, a married couple with roots in the area. Roanoke native Krielow and Williams, a New Orleans native, have relocated from Crowley to the former Entex building at the corner of Main and Fifth streets.

PJ meeting moved to Monday

The Jeff Davis Police Jury meeting is being moved to accommodate for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The police jury typically meets the first four Wednesdays of the month, however, this week they will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, according to Police Jury President Donald Woods.

The meeting is held each week in the Police Jury meeting room at the Sidney E. Briscoe, Jr. building located at 304 N. State Street and adjacent to the parish courthouse.

I love to sing. For as far back as I can remember, I’ve been holding nightly bathroom concerts, belting out ballads during bubble baths to an audience of nonjudgmental shampoo bottles.

I have “performed” once in my life. A coach at my high school gave me, a 15-year-old freshman, an ultimatum: sing and you and your classmates get the rest of the hour in the gym. Don’t and you’re to blame for us having class today.

Knights of Columbus Council 2012 from Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings conducted its Centennial Celebration Banquet Nov. 19. It was officially founded on July 20, 1919.

Glenn McFarlain served as master of ceremonies. Horace Naquin, Post commander of James O. Hall American Legion Post 19, led all in attendance with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The Louisiana state chaplain for the American Legion, Sam Doucet, gave the benediction.

Lord’s call leads Pfeiffer to El Salvador

Marcia Pfeiffer of Jennings knows when she receives a calling from the Lord, she must do her best to follow his lead. From her mission work in El Salvador as well as appointments to multiple boards and community organizations, Pfeiffer has demonstrated that her faith has helped her move mountains.

“When you put Him first, you will not believe what can happen,” she said.

After receiving her bachelor of art education degree from the University of Florida, she garnered a job as an illustrator just out of college.

CORRECTION

In a Nov. 21 article about Live Oak Lodge No. 346 Free and Accepted Masons honoring Lake Arthur High students, one recipient’s name was printed incorrectly. Brent Boudreaux received a 2019 Honesty and Integrity Award.

Something to be thankful for

A local family is counting their blessings this time of year. After receiving devastating news some time ago, they are grateful for modern medicine and great doctors.

“Thanks to some amazing health care professionals, our son, Joel is now thriving,” said his mother Lindsey Belt. “Nov. 20 marks the fifth anniversary of the surgery that has given him this many years with us.”

Joel was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension just before his third birthday.
