Older children, teens waiting to be adopted

November is National Adoption Month. When people think of adoption, they often think of babies and young children. But many older children, including teenagers, are waiting to find a family and home.

Our nation’s population of older youth in foster care need loving, permanent families. Youth ages 15 to 18 make up 5 percent of the foster care population – 84,778 youth, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHH). Creating lifelong connections for these young people is critical in helping them prepare for successful adulthood.

Cyberattack hit 10 percent of state government servers

BATON ROUGE, (AP) — One in ten of Louisiana’s 5,000 computer network servers that power operations across state government were damaged by this week’s cyberattack, a key technology official told lawmakers Friday.

Neal Underwood, Louisiana’s deputy chief information officer, said the ransomware attack wasn’t catastrophic to state government. No data was lost, and no ransom was paid. But Underwood said the effect for some agencies was significant, particularly at the Office of Motor Vehicles, which shuttered its branch locations all week to repair its computer network.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees and the Saints were reminded two weeks ago that even the last-place team in the NFC South can take them down.

The Panthers (5-5) got the same reminder last week. So Brees could only presume a sense of urgency pervaded Carolina’s preparations for Sunday’s visit to New Orleans (8-2) in a matchup of the top two teams in the division.
