Officials list pot vape brands reported in US outbreaks

NEW YORK (AP) — Health officials investigating a nationwide outbreak of vaping illnesses have listed, for the first time, the vape brands that are most commonly linked to hospitalizations.

Most of the nearly 2,300 people who suffered lung damage were vaping liquids that contain THC, the high-inducing part of marijuana.

In a report released Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed the products most often cited by patients, noting that some of them said they vaped more than one.

HADACOL PARTY AFTERMATH!

The hour-long cocktail party held in conjunction with a fete for State Senator Dudley J. LeBlanc at the Elton high school gymnasium on December 27th came in for eye-lifting at the meeting of the parish school board this morning.

The group, after considerable discussion about the drinking party, passed a resolution barring any future use of school buildings for any meeting where intoxicating liquor is being served.

Welsh Will Replace Burned School House

The Welsh school house, which was totally consumed by fire Saturday morning, will be replaced by one of equal size and beauty in time for the next school term.

Diver goes to bottom of river to bring up auto

No lives were lost but a station wagon and trailer were pulled to the bottom of the Mermentau Sunday evening when brakes and block failed to hold as W.M. Regan was pulling the outboard motor boat onto the trailer at Houssiere Park.

Hundreds witnessed the mishap and were later treated to the rare sight of a diver in full diving regalia, going to the bottom in the 40-foot deep river to tie a chain to the station wagon and have a C.P. Byrnes truck pull up the submerged vehicles.

Broken toys to be mended for poor tots

Within the next few days big barrels will be placed in front of Piggly Wiggly, Pettijean Drug and Silverman’s store. On each barrel will be the familiar “Broken Toy” sign.

Last year these barrels furnished toys for more than 300 boys and girls. Each toy will be taken to the boys work shop on the south side and under the direction of Rev. James Waltrip, each toy will be carefully repaired and repainted then placed on the shelf until the big community Christmas tree Christmas night.

US flu season arrives early, driven by an unexpected virus

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. winter flu season is off to its earliest start in more than 15 years.

An early barrage of illness in the South has begun to spread more broadly, and there’s a decent chance flu season could peak much earlier than normal, health officials say.

The last flu season to rev up this early was in 2003-2004 — a bad one. Some experts think the early start may mean a lot of suffering is in store, but others say it’s too early to tell.

Sixth suspect in custody

Another suspect is currently in custody for involvement in the murder of a Jennings man that took place at a private party last week.

Dymond Kvon Brown, 18, of Welsh, was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder.

A warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest earlier this week for his involvement in the murder of Dakota Chaisson, 22, of Jennings.
