Lady Indians hammer Crowley 59-31 behind Ceaser’s 26

ELTON – The Elton Lady Indians earned another win Monday night as they blasted the Crowley Ladies by a final of 59-31 at Oris Guidry Gymnasium. The Lady Indians rode the scoring duo of Summer Ceaser and Vici Woods, as the pair combined for 41 points in the blowout win. Ceaser led all scorers with her 26, while Woods hit double digits with her 15.

Lacassine splits pair at Bell City Tournament

BELL CITY – The Lacassine Cardinals and Lady Cardinals split a pair of contests at the Bell City Bruin Invitational over the weekend. The Lady Cardinals blasted the Grand Lake Lady Hornets by a final of 68-42 behind a huge night by senior Vanessa Duhe, while the Cards dropped a heartbreaker to St. Edmund by a final of 44-42.

Super Bowl-or-bust Saints have plenty to improve on

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints coach Sean Payton had no interest in emphasizing the positives in a thrilling 48-46 loss that came down to the final seconds against the team with the best record in the NFC.

“We can’t kid ourselves,” Payton said Monday after analyzing video of New Orleans’ loss to San Francisco. “We have to play a lot better. We have to coach a lot better.”

That tends to be the message when it’s Super Bowl or bust.

Fields, Hurts, Young join Burrow as Heisman Trophy finalists

NEW YORK (AP) — Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts and Ohio State teammates quarterback Justin Fields and defensive end Chase Young will join LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as Heisman Trophy finalists.

The top vote-getters for college football’s most famous player of the year award were announced Monday, and three of them were quarterbacks who transferred to their current schools.

VILLE PLATTE – A Going Home Celebration was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, for Elaine Vidrine Howerton, 93, who passed away on Dec. 5, 2019, in Jennings, surrounded by loved ones.

Brother Kevin West, pastor of First Baptist Church of Ville Platte, officiated funeral services. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation was held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte on Sunday from noon until prior to church service.

Leslie John Landry was born in Jennings on Jan. 19, 1957, to Clifton Landry and Norma Lee Lopez. He was called from this earthly life by his Heavenly Father on Dec. 9, 2019.

The family of Mr. Landry are honoring his wishes of cremation with a private family service.

South Louisiana diocese to close elementary school

HOUMA, La. (AP) — A Catholic elementary school that has operated for more than 50 years is closing in south Louisiana.

Catholic diocese officials said Maria Immacolata Elementary in Houma will close at the end of the current school year.

LA mayor to sign lease agreement for internet service

LAKE ARTHUR - Faster internet service is one step closer for citizens here. Mayor Sherry Crochet was given the approval to sign a lease agreement with Faster Cajun Networks, LLC, a new service provider that began working in the area this past May.

“We’ve built out almost the entire Lake Arthur area, not just in town but all around the west side of the lake and to the north as well,” said owner Johnny Oneillion. “There are some key areas that we have limited coverage in that we cannot reach at this time.”

He said there is a gap in services midway through town.
