JALH mulls merger with Lafayette General

Jennings American Legion Hospital (JALH) and Lafayette General Health (LGH) have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to explore a merger, whereby LGH will assume management and operations of JALH.

Under the proposed structure, LGH will enter into a multi-year lease of the hospital, its clinics, physical plant and equipment with the local American Legion Post, according to communications specialist Shelley Duran.

Duran said JALH and LGH began a clinical affiliation in 2016, enhancing economies of scale, sharing of best practices and clinical protocol alignment.

Fatality shuts down I-10

A crash on I-10 left one person dead Tuesday evening and one lane shut down for several hours.

The crash took place at mile marker 54 in Welsh, according to Welsh Police Department Chief Marcus Crochet. The victim was identified as Claude McZeal of Lake Charles.

“A motorhome was traveling westbound when an unknown pickup truck cut him off,” Crochet said. “When he swerved, the motorhome lost control and hit the center guard rails.”

Hathaway High School student Hannah Dronet, 14, was recently recognized as a new member in the American Angus Association.

“It’s an honor to be part of a huge association that is known across the world,” said Dronet. “This is my first year to actually be a part of the livestock shows as an exhibitor and experience all the hard work, sweat and tears it will take to prepare not only myself, but my animals for the shows.”

She said she is looking forward to meeting new friends who share the same love and passion for cattle.

Traffic stop results in drug seizure

Deputies recovered a large amount of narcotics Tuesday morning after a routine traffic stop.

According to Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office (JDSO) Chief Deputy Chris Ivey, Elliot Lee Weber, 22, of Garyville, was booked into

the parish jail and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, felony possession of marijuana and possession of a legend drug.

Weber was driving a vehicle in I-10 eastbound in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Deputies patrolling I-10 stopped the vehicle near milepost 51.

Guillory, Kelley lift Hounds over Elton 65-64

WELSH – The Welsh Hardwood Hounds kicked off the Dylan Augustine era with a dramatic 65-64 win over the Elton Indians at Greyhound Gymnasium Tuesday night. The former Hathaway All-Stater and All-Conference player at East Texas Baptist University rode the scoring of Gavan Guillory and Tre’Maine Kelley to claim the one-point win over the feisty Indians. Elton also had a huge night from Sherman Bellow, who torched the nets for 30 points in a losing cause.

Lady Tigers fire past Grand Lake 67-44

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers kept on rolling Tuesday night as they blasted the Grand Lake Lady Hornets by a final of 67-44 at home to remain a perfect 6-0 on the young season. The Lady Tigers will travel to Bell City over the weekend to participate in the Bruin Invitational beginning today.

As it has been for the Tigers throughout the early 2019 season, it was balanced scoring that led Coach Vickie Sketoe’s club to their sixth straight victory, as four players recorded double-digit point totals in the 23-point win.

Isaw where many are pleased that Joe Burrow has been adopted and accepted by Louisiana. He has even shown the possibility that he loves us so much he is considering a spelling change to “Burreaux.”

I’d hold off on that, Joe, as Louisiana football fans would adopt Jeffery Dahmer, Charles Manson or Jack the Ripper if he could contribute anything toward the championship run.
