Randy LeBlanc was the winner of Jennings Daily News’ weekly You Pick Em contest this week. LeBlanc claimed his prize of $500 by selecting all games correctly and winning by virtue of the tie-breaker score between LSU and Texas A&M. LeBlanc is pictured with JDN employee Drea Broussard as he recieves his check.

SEC contrast: LSU’s Burrow, Georgia’s Fromm strengths differ

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Joe Burrow and Jake Fromm bring contrasting strengths to Saturday’s Southeastern Conference championship game.

Burrow has been a nightmare matchup for defenses with the ball in his hands for No. 1 LSU.

Fromm, often described as a game manager, wins by making the best decisions to put the ball in other players’ hands for No. 4 Georgia.

Shooting victim identified

The victim has been identified in a shooting that took place in the early hours of Friday, Nov. 29.

Dakota Chaisson, 22, of Jennings was shot at a private party last week.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after multiple attempts were made to resuscitate him, according to Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes.

The party took place at the Ward Event Hall located at 1613 South Main Street.

Semmes said this week that officers are still interviewing witnesses to find out the identity of the suspect.

Pedestrian struck, killed on Hwy. 90

ROANOKE - A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday evening while walking along U.S. 90 in Roanoke.

According to Troop D Public Affairs Trooper Derek Senegal, the crash took the life of 29-yearold Lance P. Hoffpauir, of Jennings.

The crash took place at around 6 p.m. on U.S. 90, east of La. 395.

The preliminary investigation revealed the crash occurred as Hoffpauir was walking east in the westbound lane of travel on U.S. 90.

Hoffpauir was struck by a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 24-year-old Reagan Nicole Olmsted, of Welsh.

Christmas tradition includes streaming lights on trees and has grown to include decorating homes and yards with extravagant exhibits. Beginning Thanksgiving night, local residents lit up their homes with Christmas light displays for all to enjoy. The public is invited to take in the sights across the parish.

The Lejeune House of Lights is located at 515 Mill St., across from Lake Arthur Elementary School. Homeowners Sampson “Poncho” and Monica Lejeune have been decorating their home for the past nine years.

Shelter: Six puppies seeking responsible owners

Recently, six new puppies were acquired by the Jennings Animal Shelter. Although she would love for all of them to find a forever home, Animal Control Officer Chelsi Leger wants to make sure they find a home where they will be properly cared for.

The decision to have a puppy comes with loads of responsibility.

“You must commit to the relationship for the life of your pet,” said Leger. “Avoid compulsive decisions when choosing to bring a puppy home.”

Selecting a pet that is suited for your home and lifestyle is essential.

Once upon a time, there was a dog named Bette. She came to us as an adorable bundle of blonde fur—abandoned at the dump by despicable people who will someday burn in hell.

Bette was the visual representation of long-suffering kindness: her growingup years coincided with the toddler’s growing-up years, and this dog allowed that child to pull her lips into a smile or drive his toy truck up her back side.

But she loved him; she loved all of us. And oh, how we loved her.
