BEIJING (AP) — China on Thursday reported a sharp spike in deaths and infections from a new virus after the hardest-hit province of Hubei applied a new classification system that broadens the scope of diagnoses for the outbreak, which has spread to more than 20 countries.
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Tyler-Achane, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at Semien-Lewis Mortuary, located at 819 N. State Street in Jennings, with Minister Jonathan R. McZeal officiating.
LACASSINE – The Lacassine Lady Cardinals (LHS) and Cardinals both avenged earlier losses to Midland Tuesday night by popping the Lady Rebels and Rebels in both contests. The Lady Cardinals dropped the Lady Rebels by a final of 63-47, while the Cardinals held off a late Rebel rally to claim a 56-50 victory.
BROUSSARD – The No. 2-ranked Hathaway Hornets (HHS) made the long trip to face Episcopal School of Acadiana (ESA) in a key 7-B contest and came away with a 63-43 thumping of the Falcons. The win moves the Hornets to 28-5 overall, 8-1 in district play.
First responders in the city have handled 20 heroin and fentanyl overdoses since Jan. 1, which Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes said is the equivalent to nearly one overdose every other day.
FENTON - Officials here have the safety of children in mind. Plans are in the works to slow traffic down on the street between the village hall and Fenton Elementary.
