EHS Football squad claims Sportsmanship Award from LCAFOA

ELTON – The Elton High School football team may not have had one of their better seasons on the gridiron in 2019. However, they were rewarded for another reason on Friday by the Lake Charles Area Football Officials Association. The association annually hands out a Sportsmanship Award to the school that best exemplifies a number of topics inside what goes on throughout the football season. From behavior of players on the field, coaches on the sidelines, cooperation from administration and even the way fans treat the men in stripes. East Beauregard High School had won the award the past five seasons, but the Indians football squad but an end to that run this season. Head Coach Donnie Bruchhaus discussed what it means for his team to achieve this award and how it is more than just about what happens on Friday nights in between the white lines of a football field.

COA to host seminar on diabetes

With February being American Heart Month, local organizers are teaming up to provide a series of educational seminars regarding topics relevant to the elderly residents of Jeff Davis Parish. Golden Age of Welsh and the Council on Aging (COA) will host a free workshop offering tips on how to manage diabetes from 11 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
