On Twitter the other day someone did what a lot of people have been doing lately: Comparing levels of oppression. In this case, it was all about the Philadelphia Inquirer’s decision not to use the term “Washington Redskins” in future columns about the “Team Formerly Known as the Washington Redskins.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Lee Perry J. Roy, who died peacefully Monday, June 29, 2020, at the age of 85.

Fr. Mikel Polson, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requested visiting hours Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. and Thursday from 8-9:45 a.m. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Help businesses remain in compliance

Businesses are under so much pressure at the moment. Not only are many still trying to recover from weeks of shutdowns during stay at home orders, but they are also grappling with guidelines from the state that include maintaining social distance between customers, adhering to new capacity standards and, the least favorite, wearing masks.

In case you missed it, 106 people were shot in Chicago two weekends ago. That’s not a typo – 106.

If mainstream news organizations still covered the news, instead of only the news that serves or refutes an agenda, we might have heard more.

Of the 106 people shot, 14 – including a 3—year—old boy – were killed.

When asked about the catalysts for such violence, Chicago police Superintendent David Brown boiled it down – “gangs, guns and drugs.”

The country’s changing, and Trump is last to know

That Associated Press photo of a disheveled, exhausted Boss Trump, trudging across the White House lawn with his tie undone, clutching a MAGA hat in his hand, appears destined to become the classic portrait of his reign of misrule: the beginning of the end.

As usual, the debacle in Tulsa, with its acres of empty blue seats, was everybody’s fault but Donald J. Trump’s. A classic case of over-promising and under-delivering. “We’ve never had an empty seat, and we certainly won’t in Oklahoma,” Trump had boasted. Oops!

COVID test results available online

If you have been tested for COVID-19 at one of the many community testing sites operated by the National Guard then you are eligible to receive your test results electronically.

According to the Jeff Davis Police Jury, test specimens are being processed by Quest Diagnostics and test results are sent through the secure MyQuest online portal or app.

MyCircle, a feature of MyQuest, lets residents request permission to access updates on their loved ones’ health, including their test results.

K9 Storm to receive body armor

WELSH - K9 Storm is about to be suited up in protective gear thanks to a donation from a non-profit.

Police Chief Marcus Crochet said Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., will be supplying the police dog with a bullet- and stab-protective vest, with delivery expected this summer.

“We are so grateful for this donation,” Crochet said. “Storm is a valuable part of our department and his safety is a priority for us.”

LDVA launches Project LOVE

In order to show support for Louisiana’s veterans, Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) secretary Col. Joey Strickland is launching Project Love Our Veterans Everyday (LOVE).

“Project LOVE is an initiative to show veterans our love and support, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic,” said Strickland. “I am asking Louisianians to write to the more than 600 veterans who live in our five staterun veterans homes.”

Abandoned pups rescued, work continues

Recently, there were reports of seven stray dogs left to fend for themselves in a rural area located off of La. 1126 between Jennings and Lake Arthur. Calls from concerned citizens poured in to animal rescue groups to help save them.
