Tigers sweep two at Bell City Tourney

BELL CITY — The Lake Arthur Tigers swept a pair of games at the Bell City Tournament over the weekend by defeating the Lacassine Cardinals 4-0, then turned around and knocked off Class B’s No. 1 team in the Elizabeth Bulldogs 4-3 in walk-off fashion in their second game. The wins moved the Tigers to 11-4 on the season.

Bageux’s one-hitter leads Cards over Evans 10-1

BELL CITY — The Lacassine Cardinals avenged an early-season loss to Evans High School at the recent Bell City Tournament by claiming a 10-1 win. The Cardinals used a one-hit gem by junior Jace Bageux on the mound, and the offense pounded out 11 hits to produce their 10 run out-burst. Bageux went the distance on the hill, allowing only a single run on one hit and struck out 13 on a miniscule 92 pitches. The junior hurler also didn’t allow a single free pass in the contest. Sophomores Seth and Kole Bourgeois led the Cardinal bats by combining for five hits and four RBI’s, while junior Dylan Duran also drove in three runs in the win.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) along with Sens. John Barrasso (R-WY), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Steve Daines (R-MT), Jim Risch (R-ID), John Hoeven (R-ND), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Debra Haaland on the virtual forum the Department of the Interior (DOI) is hosting this week regarding the federal oil and gas program. The “public forum” notably excludes representation of energy states like Louisiana that are set to be severely impacted by the Biden administration’s energy policies, according to a press release from Cassidy’s office.

Tenn. bill to ban transgender athletes heads to governor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee’s Republican-led Statehouse gave final legislative approval Monday to a measure to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls’ sports, a measure many critics warn would likely result in costly legal challenges and be harmful to transgender youth.
