So much to love about the ‘90s. In school, kids carted books around in JanSport backpacks or messenger bags. Color folders were popular as well as multicolored pens. You saw a lot of Troll eraser tops, and Lisa Frank stickers were plastered everywhere. Lunchboxes included stuff like Lunchables, Fruit Roll-Ups and Clearly Canadian sparkling water. 2021 Lighting of the Bonfires returns Christmas Eve

CONVENT, La. (AP) — A unique holiday tradition is returning to St. James Parish in Louisiana.

The Lighting of the Bonfires will be held this Christmas Eve after skipping the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, news outlets reported.

“I am overjoyed to have this special event return to our community this year,” said Parish President Pete Dufresne. “I look forward to sharing in the holiday season with our residents and I know this Christmas will be one to remember.”

Louisiana university has greenhouse gas extension service

LAFAYETTE (AP) — An extension service to explain how to reduce two major greenhouse gases — carbon dioxide and methane — is up and running, serving policy makers and people in industry and government, a Louisiana university announced Thursday.

The C1 Extension Service is a resource for information, including training and ways to mitigate impacts on existing jobs, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette said in a news release.

Bulldogs fall to Bogalusa 58-26

BOGALUSA — The Jennings Bulldogs took a trek across Louisiana Friday night and fell to a very talented Bogalusa Lumberjack football team by a final of 58-26. The Dogs end their season with a record of 4-7. Bogalusa advances to play Lutcher in the Regional Round.

The Dogs got things started in what was a shootout early. Trevor Etienne took a Bogalusa punt and rambled 65 yards to the house to give the Dogs a 6-0 lead.

The Jacks answered right back when quarterback Ashton Levi ran it in from nine yards out to go up 8-6.

STATE SEEKS TAKEOVER OF FAILING INSURERS AFTER IDA

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Louisiana insurance commissioner is seeking a government takeover of two regional insurance companies that are facing insolvency due to losses from Hurricane Ida to ensure the company’s policyholders are paid what they are owed, officials said.

The insolvency could cause thousands of Louisiana residents to get kicked off their insurance policies. However, policyholders whose insurers go out of business are guaranteed up to $500,000 in payments through a state program.

State lists unclaimed property owners

In today’s edition of Jennings Daily News, starting on page eight, you’ll find a list of Jeff Davis Parish residents owed money by the State of Louisiana.

The state currently has millions of dollars it wants to return to its rightful owners, but first it has to locate those to whom money is owed, according to State Treasurer John M. Schroder.
