Charity to distribute food in Elton, Jennings

Nearly 20 percent of parish residents fall below the poverty level with 15 percent battling food insecurity. In response, Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana will be distributing food this month to Jeff Davis Parish residents in need.

When turtles fly: Cold-stunned animals nursed in Mississippi

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — Forty endangered sea turtles that were injured when the water off Massachusetts cooled down so quickly that they couldn’t swim away are being nursed back to health at the Mississippi Aquarium, flown there by a volunteer pilot group known as Turtles Fly Too.
