The season of Advent is upon us. Advent is a season of hopeful watching and eager expectation, when Christians await the coming of their savior, Jesus Christ. Granted, most children are probably more excited about the coming of Santa Claus. And this is also the season when many of us go out shopping, spend too much money and go into such deep debt that it takes us most of the next year to pay it off. Perhaps we should return to the original and most profound meaning of Advent, which is preparing for the coming of God as man, who came to show us how to live more decently with our fellow humans. The mantra of advent is “Come, Lord Jesus.” Invite Jesus into your hearts and your homes this year as you prepare for Christmas. You can do this by taking some quiet time to pray and reflect on God’s love for us in sending his son. Even if you plan to go out amid the hustle and bustle, or to shop until you drop, this quiet time of prayer and reflection will help you stay balanced and grounded.
