A flock of snow geese were spotted recently in a Thornwell rice field. The snow goose has two color plumage morphs, white (snow) or gray/blue (blue), thus the common description as “snows” and “blues.” Blue-morph birds are rare among the Greater Snow Geese and among eastern populations of the Lesser.
As an arctic blast is forecast to move across the state, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) warns the public of potential fish kills throughout coastal Louisiana due to freezing water temperatures.
WELSH — The Welsh High Greyhounds hosted the Kinder High Yellow Jackets Monday night at the Greyhound Gymnasium on the Welsh High campus in a non-district contest. The Greyhounds dominated the court and took a huge win over the Yellow Jackets at 52-21. The win moved the Greyhounds to 5-4 while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-7.
LACASSINE — The Lacassine Lady Cardinals made it four out of their last five Monday night when they blasted the Pickering Lady Red Devils by a final of 60-27 at Juneau Gymnasium. The win moved the Lady Cards out to 16-7 on the season, and they are currently sitting inside the top 16 in the Division IV non-select power ratings. Lacassine placed three starters in double figures in the win, with Sydnie Cooley leading the way with 16 points. The Lady Cards were back in action Tuesday night when they welcomed the Eunice Lady Bobcats into Juneau Gymnasium. Lacassine will also entertain Rosepine on Thursday in a nondistrict clash. The Lady Cards shot out of the gates and claimed a 17-3 lead after the first period of play here Monday night. Hannah Fontenot led the Lady Cards by pouring in 10 points in the opening frame, including a pair of long 3-point bombs. Addison Hollier popped in six tallies, while Halli Davis hit one from the free throw line.
LACASSINE — The Lacassine Cardinals picked up a big win Monday night over a good Pickering team at Juneau Gymnasium by a final of 88-58. The Cardinals placed five players in double figures in the win, led by Kane Broussard’s 23 and Jordan Duhe’s 20. The No. 7-ranked Cards moved to 14-9 overall on the season with the win, and will be back in action after the Christmas break when they participate in the St. Edmund Tournament. On top of having a game-high 23 points, Broussard also hauled down 15 rebounds. 2022 First Team All-Stater Aaron Garcia also had a big night by scoring 15 points, but also dished out 16 assists in the win.
