Begnaud set to guide Hounds again in 2024

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds have seen a numerous amount of talented quarterbacks come through their program over the years. This year will be no different as senior quarterback Jonovan Begnaud will again take his place behind center for the second consecutive season. The talented Begnaud racked up 2,109 all-purpose yards a season ago in which the Hounds advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the Division IV playoffs before falling to the Logansport Tigers in a closely contested match-up. High hopes are again on the minds of Greyhound fans in 2024, and if there is to be another run this coming season, Begnaud will be one of the key cogs in leading the charge. The 6’2, 180-pound speedster can do it with both his legs and his arm.

The Jennings Bronco All-Stars just wrapped up an amazing summer last week as they finished third in the Pony South Zone Bronco Tournament held in San Marcos, Texas. The All-Stars made the trek to the big tournament by winning their Sectional Tournament and finishing as the runner-up to the Scott All-Stars in the Super Regional. Both teams advanced to the 16-team bracket held in San Marcos. This is the first Jennings team to ever reach the semi-finals of a South Zone event held in Pony Baseball. Jennings coach Christian Blair touched on the magical run the boys made and said just what made them special.

LAFAYETTE — The Crowley Millers opened their 2024 American Legion State Tournament off with a bang over the weekend by sweeping through their first two games in the eight-team field held at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field on the campus of the University of Louisiana. The Millers opened the tourney with a 17-5 win over the Carencro Aces, then followed that up with a winner’s bracket win over the tournament favorite Bossier Phillies by a count of 9-2. Those wins advanced the Millers into the winners bracket finals with a date against the Jesuit-based Retif Oilers out of New Orleans late Monday night. The winner of the state tournament will advance to the Southern Regional held in Washington, Missouri at the beginning of August.
