Dogs fend off Elton in tight contest

ELTON – The Jennings Bulldogs fought off a feisty Elton Indians team at Oris Guidry Gymnasium Monday night. The Dogs held on late to claim a 52-48 victory in front of a packed house. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 4-1, while the Indians fell to 6-4 overall.

ELTON — The Jennings Lady Dogs traveled to play parish rival Elton Monday night and defeated the Lady Indians 43-15.

Lady Hornets demolish Kinder 90-51

GRAND LAKE – The Hathaway Lady Hornets moved their overall record to an impressive 17-1 with a 90-51 thrashing of Kinder in the Grand Lake Tournament over the weekend. Hathaway continued their hot shooting in the contest by burying 16 3-point buckets. Senior Chloey Guidry led the assault by draining nine treys and 34 points, while Lamiyah Sanchez hit four three’s and went for 30 points in the win. Kinder dropped to 9-2 overall following the loss.

Iota boys race past Midland 62-46

MIDLAND – The Iota Bulldogs used pressure defense and a big third quarter to come away with the 62-46 victory over the Midland Rebels on Monday night.

Iota ladies slip past Midland 36-34

MIDLAND – The Iota Lady Dogs pulled it out late and escaped with a 36-34 win over the Midland Lady Rebels. Traditionally, this game is hard fought and comes down to the wire and this year was no different.

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — An autopsy revealed unusually severe brain disease in the frontal lobe of the former NFL player accused of fatally shooting six people in Rock Hill, South Carolina before killing himself in April, authorities announced Tuesday.

Lady Dogs rally over LA, 48-35

After a slow 1st half start, the Jennings Lady Bulldogs came alive to defeat the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers 48-35 Friday night in the Lake Arthur Tournament.

Lake Arthur led 24-17 at half, but then Jennings would outscore Lake Arthur 31-11 in the second half to get their win over the defending Class 2A State Champions.

Lake Arthur took a 3-0 lead with a Hailey Broussard trey and took a 5-2 lead with a Kali Hornsby free throw. Jennings would tie the game at 5 with an Anna Trahan trey at the 5:00 minute mark.

Lady Hornets CC team earns Class B state runner-up

The Hathaway Lady Hornets were able to capture a state runner-up crown at the LHSAA Cross Country meet held at Northwestern State University in late November. The team consisted of senior Brea-Baca White, sophomores Chaylee Beard, Madison Suire and Emma Broussard and eighth-graders Sienna Guidry, Ali Crader, Kaitlyn Sawyer and Avery Thibodeaux. Hathaway had three individuals finish in the Top-10, with Sawyer earning second place with a time of 20:17.2, Suire finished third with a mark of 20:22.9 and Baca-White nabbed ninth with a time of 21.27.7.

No. 25 LSU women defeat Texas Southern 96-55

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Faustine Aifuwa scored 14 points, Khayla Painter added 13 and No. 24 LSU coasted to a 96-55 win over Texas Southern on Sunday.

It marked the first win for LSU (7-1), which won its sixth straight, as a ranked team in the Kim Mulkey era and followed the Tigers’ first win over a ranked team. LSU beat No. 14 Iowa State 69-60 last time out.

Texas Southern (0-6) kept pace in the first quarter, trailing 18-16 but LSU scored the first 11 points of the second quarter and outscored the visiting Tigers 31-8 for a 49-24 halftime lead.
