Alabama QB Young, LB Anderson named SEC Players of Year

(AP) — Alabama once again collected a Southeastern Conference title and two big leaguewide individual awards.

Quarterback Bryce Young is the SEC’s offensive player of the year and linebacker Will Anderson Jr. is the top defensive player, as voted on by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters covering the league. The voting was released on Wednesday.

Brad Davis to remain as LSU offensive line coach

BATON ROUGE – Brad Davis will remain as LSU’s offensive line coach, head coach Brian Kelly announced on Wednesday.

Davis, a Baton Rouge native who is currently serving as LSU’s interim head coach for the Texas Bowl, is in his first season with the Tigers. He joined the LSU staff in June after one season at Arkansas.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — After a plastic water bottle slipped from Taysom Hill’s hands and bounced at his feet, the Saints quarterback possessed the good humor to laugh when asked if the injured middle finger on his throwing had had anything to do with it.

Lady Dogs claim Elton Tourney title

ELTON – The Jennings Lady Bulldogs swept through the Elton Indian Classic over the weekend by going a perfect 3-0 to claim the tournament championship. The Lady Dogs beat the St. Edmund Lady Blue Jays in the semi-finals on Friday by a score of 65-20, then knocked off 5A Sulphur in the finals on Saturday by a count of 44-36. Jennings improved their overall mark to 8-3 with the tournament championship.

Levi shoots Dogs past Breaux Bridge

The Jennings Bulldogs moved their overall record to 2-1 on the young season with a 47-42 win over the Breaux Bridge Tigers Friday night. The Dogs used Chance Levi’s big night to help preserve the victory. The senior lefty hit for 29 points in the five-point win.

No.1 Lady Hornets nail 19 3-pointers, top Anacoco 93-55

ANACOCO – The No.1-ranked Hathaway Lady Hornets put on a shooting gallery here in Central Louisiana Monday evening by nailing a whopping 19 3-pointers in a 93-55 win over the Anacoco Lady Indians. Senior Chloey Guidry had a huge night in the Hathaway win by dropping 36 points and eight 3-balls in the win. With the win, Hathaway kept on cruising, and moved their overall mark to 13-1 on the season. The Lady Hornets sit atop the Class B power ratings at No.1 in the state.

Cardinals top Sulphur 43-38 to move to 11-3

BELL CITY – After blasting Starks on Thursday at the Bell City Bruin Invitational, the Lacassine Cardinals proved they could win the close one too by edging 5A Sulphur 43-38. The Cardinals upped their impressive overall record to 11-3 with the win over the Tors.

Tigers edge Iota, 80-74 to move to 3-0

IOTA – The Lake Arthur Tigers moved their overall record to 3-0 on the season by toppling the Iota Bulldogs by a final of 80-74. Kenyon Boese had a huge night for the Tigers by nailing down 30 points in the big win for lake Arthur. The Tigers placed four scorers in double figures for the evening, with Trindon Robinson, Warner Levy and Ray Levi all accomplishing the feat.

BELL CITY – The Lacassine Lady Cardinals popped out a big win over Assumption High School in the Bell City Bruin Invitational over the weekend buy a final of 77-50. Sydnie Cooley had a monstrous contest for the Lady Cards, as she led all scorers by pumping in 40 points in the huge win. Lacassine moved their overall record to 7-6 with the win over Assumption.
