Kelly compares LSU to Broadway, brushes off legacy questions

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Newly hired LSU coach Brian Kelly’s can accept if his legacy at storied Notre Dame is tarnished by the sudden and unceremonious way in which he walked away from the Fighting Irish.

“Legacies are not what I spend time thinking about,” Kelly said during his formal introduction at LSU on Wednesday. “I came down here because I wanted to be with the best.

Lady Hornets move to 11-1 with 73-52 win

MANSURA – The Hathaway Lady Hornets went on the road to Central Louisiana Monday night and earned a hard fought win over the Avoyelles Public Charter Lady Vikings by a final of 73-52. The Lady Hornets blew open a close game with a dominant second half, and rode the big scoring nights of Chloey Guidry and Lamiah Sanchez to claim the win. Chloey Guidry led all scorers with 25 points, while Sanchez dumped in 22 of her own. Hathaway connected on 11 3-point buckets in moving their impressive record to 11-1 in the early season.

Broussard’s big night lifts Lady Tigers over Midland

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers used a huge second half and a big fourth quarter from senior Darrah Broussard to fend off a feisty Midland Lady Rebels squad by a final of 57-38 at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium Monday night. Leading 37-30 heading into the fourth quarter of play, Darrah Broussard scored all 20 of the Lady Tigers’ fourth quarter points to help moved her squad to the 19-point win over Midland. With the victory, Lake Arthur moves their record to 4-2 on the season, while the Lady Rebels dropped to 8-2.

Tigers claw out 65-42 win over Rebels

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Tigers jumped out to a big lead over the Midland Rebels, and used a dominant fourth quarter to claim a 65-42 victory at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium Monday night. Sophomore Ray Levi had a huge night for the Tigers, as he led all scorers with 24 points on the evening. The big moment of the contest came at the end of the fourth quarter when Tiger Shawn Fruge banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put the exclamation point on Lake Arthur’s win.

Hall carries Stephen F. Austin over Northwestern St. 72-68

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Sadaidriene Hall had 13 points as Stephen F. Austin edged past Northwestern State 72-68 on Sunday.

Gavin Kensmil had 16 points and seven rebounds for Stephen F. Austin (5-2). He also committed seven turnovers. David Kachelries added 13 points and six rebounds. Roti Ware had 13 points.

Kendal Coleman had 14 points for the Demons (1-6), who have now lost four straight games. Cedric Garrett added 13 points. Jalen King had 10 points.

Bankston carries Norfolk St. over Grambling St. 70-63

PHOENIX (AP) — Kris Bankston matched his career high with 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Norfolk State topped Grambling 70-63 at the HBCU Challenge on Monday.

Tyrese Jenkins had 12 points for Norfolk the Spartans (8-1).

AJ Taylor had 16 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Tigers (2-5). Tra’Michael Moton and Danya Kingsby scored 12 points apiece.

Christon lifts Grambling St. over Morgan St. 74-59

PHOENIX (AP) — Cameron Christon had 24 points as Grambling State topped Morgan State 74-59 on Sunday night at the HBCU Challenge.

Danya Kingsby added 20 points for the Tigers.

Christon shot 8 for 10 from the field.

AJ Taylor had 16 points and nine rebounds for Grambling State (2-4). Prince Moss added six rebounds.

Lagio Grantsaan had 14 points for the Bears (2-5), who have now lost five games in a row. Malik Miller added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Doucet, Lady Dogs hammer Doyle, 58-26

The Jennings Lady Bulldogs put on a fireworks display this past weekend at the Hathaway High School Tournament by blasting the 2021 Class 2A runner-up Doyle Lady Tigers by a final of 58-26. Playing without senior star Jill Fontenot due to an injured ankle, senior center Bri Doucet had a monster outing to lift the Lady Dogs to the 32-point victory.
