NEW YORK (AP) — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Wednesday he is hopeful that a new collective bargaining agreement between the league and its players can get done by the end of this week, though he stopped short of predicting that a deal would actually get struck.

Actlis wins state powerlifting championship at 165

LAFAYETTE – Although lifting weights is a staple of most sports throughout Jeff Davis Parish, the Elton Indians and junior Danerian (D.D.) Actlis have taken it a huge step further. Elton added powerlifting to their list of sports at the school, and it has completely taken off. Last Wednesday, Actlis capped off a magical season by claiming the Division IV State Championship by over a difference of a whopping 50 pounds over the next closest competitor. Actlis explained a year ago, he didn’t place in any meets but now has the right to be called a state champion in his 165-pound division.

Lady Dogs blast Pickering. 16-2 to move to 15-3 overall

WELSH — The Jennings Lady Bulldog Softball team took a break from district to play in the Welsh Tournament Friday night and played Class 2A Pickering. The Lady Dogs took an 8-0 lead first period lead and would go on to take a 16-2 win over the Lady Red Devils in 5 innings via the 10 run rule.
