CROWLEY – The Crowley Millers moved to 4-1 Monday night with an 8-0 shutout over the Beau Chene Gators at Miller Stadium. The Millers got back on the winning track following their first loss of the season last week against their district foe in the Opelousas Indians.

City accepts park renovation bid

Plans are moving forward for the renovations at Marcus Cain Memorial Park on Peters Street in Jennings.

The city has accepted a low bid from Acadian Renovations for construction of the a new 120 x 140 foot pavilion with an alternate bid for a new parking lot.

“Once the pavilion is built, it will be one of the largest covered pavilions in the parish, second only to the rodeo arena at the parish fairgrounds,” said Jennings Mayor Henry Guinn.

ELTON - A learning experience for all involved, Camp Coushatta will continue until Wednesday, July 10. The purpose of the camp is to teach both Coushatta youth and children of other cultures about the Native American way of life. “The camp offers a unique hands-on experience where customs and culture are shared in an effort to keep the heritage alive,” said Director of Social Services Rayne Langley. There is no charge to check the camp out and registration is not required. “The day camp is held twice a week, from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,” he said.

Elton to host Independence Day Celebration

ELTON - Food, fun and fireworks are coming to the Elton Town Park in observance of Independence Day.

Elton’s annual celebration has been set for Wednesday, July 3.

Organizer Kesia Lemoine said the people from around the community are invited to attend, free of charge.

“The event will be held from 5-9 p.m. at the park,” said Lemoine. “We’d like everyone to come on out and have a good time.”

Mayor Tony Laughlin said this is a tradition they celebrate every year and he is looking forward to seeing everyone have a good time.

‘Baby’ found dead near park turns out to be realistic doll

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say what appeared to be a dead infant found outside a park in New York City turned out to be a realistic-looking doll.

A runner spotted what she thought was a baby shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday in a grassy area outside Crocheron Park in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens and called 911.

Police initially reported that a 3-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

US restores some aid to El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration said Monday it is easing previously announced cuts in hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the Central American nations of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala but will not allow new funding until those countries do more to reduce migrant flows to the United States.

Trump threatens to deport millions beginning next week

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is threatening to remove millions of people living in the United States illegally ahead of formally announcing his reelection bid .

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement next week will “begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States,” Trump said in a pair of tweets Monday night.

“They will be removed as fast as they come in,” he wrote.
