Yastrzemski homers as Giants beat Red Sox 7-6 in 15 innings

BOSTON (AP) — Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of former Red Sox great and Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, homered in his first game in Fenway Park, and Alex Dickerson had a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the 15th inning to lift the San Francisco Giants to a 7-6 victory over Boston on Tuesday night.

The game featured a major league record-tying 24 pitchers — including a team-record 13 by the Giants — and had 50 players overall, lasting 5 hours, 54 minutes. “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” was played in the middle of the 14th inning.

Women’s Golf Takes 3rd at Mercedes-Benz Championship

BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team earned its first Top-3 finish of the 2019-20 season at the 23rd annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers maintained their standing in third place by shooting a 1-under 283 in the final round. LSU finished the 56-hole tournament with a 7-over 859. It is the first time since the Alamo Invitational in October of 2014 that LSU has recorded back-toback rounds of 285 or less in a tournament (279-284-278).

The Bulldogs came away with another close loss to a really good Eunice Bobcat team. Being 0-2 doesn’t feel good. Losing doesn’t feel good, even to good teams. And it never feels good to lose to Eunice. I hate Eunice (more on that later).

But I’m a glass halffull kind of guy. I see these kids playing hard. I hear them on the sidelines cheering each other on. They have heart and character and soon the breaks will fall our way. Playing these tough teams early will make us better in district play.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is poised to revoke California’s authority to set auto mileage standards, asserting that only the federal government has the power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and fuel economy.

Bermuda gets ready for pass by Category 3 Hurricane Humberto

MIAMI (AP) — Bermuda’s government called up troops and urged people on the British Atlantic island to make final preparations for an expected close brush Wednesday with Hurricane Humberto, a powerful Category 3 storm. Authorities ordered early closings of schools, transportation and government offices.

Gov. John Rankin called up 120 members of the Royal Bermuda Regiment to prepare for possible storm recovery efforts and National Security Minister Wayne Caines said schools, government offices and ferries on the island would close at noon and bus service would halt at 4 p.m.

Jennings man arrested for striking juvenile

A Jennings man is currently in custody after officers discovered he had struck and attempted to strangle a juvenile.

On the evening of Monday, Sept. 16, Jennings Police Department Chief Danny Semmes said his department received a call in reference to a runaway juvenile.

“The juvenile did return home and during an investigation officers learned that father, Lance Lozeau, 42, of Jennings had struck the youngest juvenile in the face prior to the juvenile running away,” he said.

Funeral services for Arthur B. Davis, 63, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at Stevens’ Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 9-11 a.m.

Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Lake Arthur.

Arthur was a resident of Lake Arthur.

WELSH - Funeral services for Mrs. Susan LeLeux, 78, of Welsh will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, in Miguez Funeral Home, with Rev. Angela C. Bulhofofficiating.

Visitation for Mrs. LeLeux will begin today, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, from 5-9 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday at 8 a.m. and continue until her 10 a.m. service.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh.

Trump names hostage envoy O’Brien national security adviser

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday he’s naming hostage negotiator Robert O’Brien, who Trump had monitor the criminal case in Sweden against American rapper A$AP Rocky, as his new national security adviser.

Trump tweeted the announcement from California, where he was opening the third and final day of a West Coast fundraising swing.

Flash flood risk persists as Imelda moves inland

HOUSTON (AP) — Imelda is threatening to dump up to 18 inches (46 centimeters) of rain in parts of Southeast Texas and southwestern Louisiana as the tropical depression moves inland over the next few days.

Jeff Lindner, a meteorologist and director of flood operations for the Harris County Flood Control District in Houston, said the main threat from Imelda remained the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding.
