Lady Indians sweep through North Vermilion Tourney

LEROY – The defending Class 1A state champion Elton Lady Indians’ basketball squad swept right through the North Vermillion Holiday Classic last week by defeating 4A South Terrebone, 2A Franklin and 3A Iota to move their overall mark to 3-3. Elton’s only three losses of the season have come to 5A Sulphur and Lafayette High, and defending Division IV state champion Lafayette Christian.

ETIENNE SHATTERS ACC TD RECORD

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Clemson junior running back Travis Etienne is now the ACC all-time leader in career rushing touchdowns (53) and career total touchdowns (57).

Former Pittsburgh running back James Conner was the previous record-holder in both categories.

In doing so, Etienne (342) also passed Conner (338) as the highest-scoring nonkicker in ACC history.

Etienne scored a oneyard rushing touchdown vs. South Carolina in the third quarter and a two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

AP Top 25: Alabama out of top 5 for first time in 4 years

(AP) - Alabama dropped to No. 9 in The Associated Press college football poll, snapping the Crimson Tide’s record streak of 68 appearances in the top five. The top four teams in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank were unchanged, with LSU at No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia.

The Buckeyes gained on LSU after their blowout victory at Michigan, receiving 19 first-place votes. The Tigers had 40, down 10 from last week. Clemson received three first-place votes.

Utah moved up to No. 5, followed by Oklahoma, Florida and Baylor.

Injuries, ejection drain No. 4 Georgia for SEC title game

ATLANTA (AP) — Jake Fromm may be relying on some new starters around him when the SEC title — and a spot in the playoff — is on the line for No. 4 Georgia.

Fromm insists Georgia’s offense will be ready for Saturday’s Southeastern Conference championship game against top-ranked LSU.

Despite Fromm’s optimism, there’s reason for concern.

RUSTON, La. (AP) — Kalob Ledoux had 23 points as Louisiana Tech easily defeated Samford 78-57 on Saturday night. DaQuan Bracey had 14 points for Louisiana Tech (5-2), which earned its fourth straight home victory. Derric Jean added 10 points. Mubarak Muhammed had 10 points for the hosts. Ledoux’s 3-point jumper put Louisiana Tech ahead 19-17 at the 8:54 mark of the first half and Tech stayed out front to take a 33-24 advantage into the break. Robert Allen had 14 points for Samford (4-5). Josh Sharkey added 13 points. Logan Dye had 10 points. Louisiana Tech plays Mississippi St.

Prince Andrew’s accuser asks UK public for support

LONDON (AP) — The woman who says she was a trafficking victim made to have sex with Prince Andrew when she was 17 is asking the British public to support her quest for justice.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre tells BBC Panorama in an interview to be broadcast Monday evening that people “should not accept this as being OK.”

Giuffre’s first UK television interview on the topic describes how she says she was trafficked by notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein beginning in 2001 and made to have sex with Andrew three times, including once in London.

Russian scientists present ancient puppy found in permafrost

YAKUTSK, Russia (AP) — Russian scientists on Monday showed off a prehistoric puppy, believed to be 18,000 years old, fou nd in permafrost in the country’s Far East.

Discovered last year in a lump of frozen mud near the city of Yakutsk, the puppy is unusually well-preserved, with its hair, teeth, whiskers and eyelashes still intact.

For years, Google and Facebook have been showing ads based on your online behavior. Retailers from Amazon to Walgreens also regularly suction up your transaction history to steer future spending and hold your loyalty.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata for Joseph Michel Heinen, 65, who passed away Nov. 26, 2019 in Hathaway. Fr. William Miller, pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Hathaway, officiated the services.

Visitation was held Friday from 3-9 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley and Saturday from 8-10:45 a.m. in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata. A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Friday.

Interment was in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

EUNICE ~ On Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, Kevin Dwayne Dietz finished his race, closed his eyes and opened them in his Heavenly home.

He was welcomed into Jesus’ arms and reunited with many loved ones gone before him.

A Celebration of Life was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at New Hope Fellowship in Eunice.
