JDP students elected to FFA state posts

Two Jeff Davis Parish students have been chosen as state leaders for the Louisiana FFA Association.

Elton High student Kaleb Lemoine is the new state president for 2020-2021 while Lacassine High student Sydni Walker was chosen as one of the state-level vice presidents.

Elton, Hathaway and Lake Arthur high schools graduated its classes of 2020 Friday, June 6. To see a list of awards and scholarships from those events, look for Jennings Daily News’ Graduation Keepsake which will publish Sunday, June 21.

 

IRS warns public of tax fraud, financial scams

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reminding taxpayers to guard against tax fraud and other related financial scams related to COVID-19.

In the last few months, the IRS Criminal Investigation division (CI) has seen a variety of Economic Impact Payment (EIP) scams and other financial schemes looking to take advantage of unsuspecting taxpayers. CI continues to work with law enforcement agencies domestically and abroad to educate taxpayers about these scams and investigate the criminals perpetrating them during this challenging time.

Give the gift of life this week

Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give another person. It is the gift of life.

The Jennings fire and police departments will be hosting their annual Cuffs and Hoses Community Blood Drive from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 11 at the fire station, located at 110 N. Broadway St. in Jennings.

They are working to secure the blood supply as people become more active and elective surgeries are being rescheduled as the state begins opening back up. The need for blood has increased by 25 percent due to the ongoing health crisis, according to officials.
