WELSH - The last time the Lake Arthur Tigers won back to back games against the Welsh Greyhounds was in the 2009-2010 years. The Tigers will have the opportunity to match that fete Friday night when they travel to face the Greyhounds. Lake Arthur used a long touchdown run late in the contest last year to gain a win over Welsh and set up the chance for a repeat.

US sets record for cases amid election battle over virus

(AP) - The United States set another record for daily confirmed coronavirus cases as states around the country posted all-time highs, underscoring the vexing issue that confronts the winner of the presidential race.

The surging cases and hospitalizations reflect the challenge that either President Donald Trump or former Vice President Joe Biden will face in the coming months over the pandemic, with winter and the holidays approaching.

Public health experts fear potentially dire consequences, at least in the short term.

Army Corps reconsidering permit for $9.4B plastics complex

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers is considering whether potential environmental impacts require it to change, suspend or revoke the permit for a $9.4 billion plastics complex planned in Louisiana by a Taiwan company, U.S. Department of Justice lawyers said Wednesday.

The Corps plans to explain by Tuesday why “the intended construction activities authorized under the permit ... may not proceed,” said a motion filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.

Eta brings heavy rains, deadly mudslides to Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Eta moved into Honduras Wednesday afternoon as a weakened tropical depression but still bringing the heavy rains that have drenched and caused deadly landslides in the country’s east and in northern Nicaragua.

The storm no longer carried the winds of the Category 4 hurricane that battered Nicaragua’s coast Tuesday, but it was moving so slowly and dumping so much rain that much of Central America was on high alert. Eta had sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kph) and was moving westward at 7 mph (11 kph). It was 70 miles (115 kilometers) east of Tegucigalpa.
