Elton seeks bids for projects

ELTON — Improving drainage in Elton is the goal as town officials seek bids for two projects.

“The water has been backing up for years, causing houses to flood and rot,” said town council member Tony Guillory.

The projects are aimed at improving drainage in the incorporated areas of the town.

LA Meal Ministry celebrates sixth year

LAKE ARTHUR — Lake Arthur Meal Ministry (LAMM), a non-profit meal delivery program has reached its sixth year after being founded by resident Lisa Richard in August 2015.

“Lisa was new to Lake Arthur and wanted to give back to the community, so she reached out to local churches for names of homebound or elderly people so she could start this ministry,” said Tammy Broussard, volunteer for LAMM. “That’s how it all started.”

Broussard said she was the first of many cooks for the ministry and the list started with only 12 to 15 people needing to be served.

Hounds to welcome in Hamilton Christian for road game tonight

WELSH - The Welsh Greyhounds will tangle Thursday night against a very good Hamilton Christian team that is 2-0 for the season. The contest was supposed to be an away game, but because the Warriors had trouble finding a stadium, the game has been moved to Welsh. “I told their coach he could have all of the gate and I would keep the concessions, and he agreed, so we will play in Welsh,” commented Greyhound head coach Cody Gueringer.

A tough fight in Eunice

Foo Fact of the Game: In a game between two rebuilding teams, a Jennings turnover in the red zone and a touchdown run called back for holding was the difference in Bulldogs 33-18 loss to rival Eunice.

Captains: Aidan Ward and Isley Mouton.

Coin Toss: Eunice won, deferred to the second half.

Game Balls: On offense, Trevor Etienne scored all three of the Dogs’ touchdowns. On defense, Cisco Williams recovered a muffed Eunice punt.

Tina Renay Daigle, 57, of League City, Texas, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at Houston Methodist Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, with Father Susil Fernando officiating.

Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, from 5-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:15 p.m., led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the procession to the church.

I don’t like having blood drawn.

I don’t like anything about doctors’ appointments except the declaration, “You’re fine.”

At the end of August, however, I headed toward a routine appointment and observed a flurry of teachers returning to their desks and their duties.

No, I can’t believe it’s time for school to start: where did the summer go?

Better still, where did the months of January through July go?

Those thoughts were traveling circuitously through my brain when I opened the doors to the doctors’ office and found the girls of my past.
