Green carries Louisiana Tech over LSU-Shreveport 84-70

RUSTON, La. (AP) — David Green had a career-high 21 points as Louisiana Tech beat LSU-Shreveport 84-70 on Tuesday night.

Amorie Archibald had 19 points for Louisiana Tech (8-2), which won its fourth consecutive game. Kaleb Stewart added 12 points. Cobe Williams had 11 points.

Quentin Jones had 18 points for the Pilots. Royce Hunter added 13 points. Leondre Washington had 11 points.

Walker scores 22 to lead UAB over Grambling St. 79-61

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Jordan Walker had 22 points as UAB defeated Grambling State 79-61 on Tuesday night.

Quan Jackson had five steals for UAB (9-2), which won its fourth consecutive game. Josh LeBlanc Sr. and Trey Jemison each had four blocks for the Blazers, who swatted a season-high 11 blocks.

UAB dominated the first half and led 49-25 at halftime. The Blazers’ 30 points in the second half were a season low for the team.

Shawndarius Cowart had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (3-8). Terreon Randolph and Prince Moss added 13 points apiece.

Metskhvarishvili lifts UL Monroe over Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Nika Metskhvarishvili had 21 points as ULM topped Stephen F. Austin 82-69 on Tuesday night.

Metskhvarishvili shot 4 for 6 on 3-pointers.

Russell Harrison had 14 points for ULM (6-4), which earned its fourth straight victory. Andre Jones added 13 points and six assists. Koreem Ozier had 13 points.

Stephen F. Austin scored 28 first-half points, a season low for the team.

Williams’ double-double leads Louisville past SE Louisiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Malik Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Louisville used balanced scoring and solid defense to beat Southeastern Louisiana 86-60 on Tuesday night.

Louisville led 42-31 at halftime, holding SE Louisiana to 11 field goals with 11 turnovers. The Lions scored just eight points through the opening 11 minutes of the second half while Louisville built a 30-point lead.

Louisville made 51.7% of its shots while SE Louisiana was 20 for 62 (32.3%), including 6 of 33 from distance.

Edwards overrules legislative refusal of vaccine requirement

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Gov. John Bel Edwards notified House lawmakers Tuesday that he’s adding the COVID-19 vaccine to Louisiana’s immunization schedule for schools and colleges despite their attempt to block the new regulation from taking effect.

EPA: Clean up air pollution from New Orleans-area plant

CHALMETTE (AP) — Federal regulators have announced plans to make Louisiana and a suburban New Orleans fuel plant clean up emissions that have violated air quality standards since at least 2013.

The Environmental Protection Agency says a plant owned by Rain CII Carbon LLC of Stamford, Connecticut, spews sulphur dioxide into the air of St. Bernard Parish, The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate reported.

The plant in Chalmette said in March 2013 that it was responsible for most of that chemical in the parish’s air, the newspaper noted.

Councilman, ex-police chief indicted for alleged vote buying

AMITE CITY (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted a Louisiana town council member and a former police chief in relation to an alleged 2016 vote-buying scheme, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

Amite City Councilmember Kristian Hart, 49, and former Police Chief Jerry Trabona, 73, have been charged with conspiracy to buy votes and multiple counts of buying votes, according to a Tuesday news release from the department. Their initial court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Helicopter crash shuts down interstates near Spillway

LAPLACE (AP) — A helicopter crashed on Interstate 10 in Louisiana on Tuesday, shutting down traffic.

The pilot’s condition was not immediately released and it wasn’t immediately clear if anyone else was on board or if there were any injuries on the ground.

The privately owned Bell 407 crashed on the Bonne Carre Spillway bridge about 12:30 p.m. on I-10 eastbound, according to Louisiana State Police, the Federal Aviation Administration and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre.

Biden visiting Kentucky to console tornado victims

WASHINGTON (AP) — For the fifth time since taking office less than a year ago, President Joe Biden is taking on the grim task Wednesday of visiting an area ravaged by natural disaster to offer comfort and condolences.

Biden was headed to Kentucky to survey damage and offer federal support for the victims of devastating tornadoes that killed dozens and left thousands more in the region without heat, water or electricity.

On a single Ky. street, the storm killed seven children

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — The little red wagon was strewn upside down on a heap of rubble — a pile of boards and bricks, a mangled blue bicycle, a baby doll.

Behind it, there was little more than a hole in the ground where a house had stood. Across the street, the tidy homes on this cul-de-sac were reduced to mounds of lumber. Clothes hung from the branches of snapped trees. The walls of one house were gone, and the only thing left standing inside was a white Christmas tree.
