Health worker vaccine mandate blocked in half the states

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal appeals court panel on Wednesday lifted a nationwide ban against President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for health care workers, instead blocking the requirement in only certain states and creating the potential for patchwork enforcement across the country.

The decision by the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals kept a preliminary injunction in place for 14 states that had collectively sued in federal court in Louisiana. It altered a Nov. 30 ruling by U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty, who originally applied his order nationwide.

ELTON — The Jennings Lady Dogs traveled to play parish rival Elton Monday night and defeated the Lady Indians 43-15.

Lady Hornets demolish Kinder 90-51

GRAND LAKE – The Hathaway Lady Hornets moved their overall record to an impressive 17-1 with a 90-51 thrashing of Kinder in the Grand Lake Tournament over the weekend. Hathaway continued their hot shooting in the contest by burying 16 3-point buckets. Senior Chloey Guidry led the assault by draining nine treys and 34 points, while Lamiyah Sanchez hit four three’s and went for 30 points in the win. Kinder dropped to 9-2 overall following the loss.

Iota boys race past Midland 62-46

MIDLAND – The Iota Bulldogs used pressure defense and a big third quarter to come away with the 62-46 victory over the Midland Rebels on Monday night.

Iota ladies slip past Midland 36-34

MIDLAND – The Iota Lady Dogs pulled it out late and escaped with a 36-34 win over the Midland Lady Rebels. Traditionally, this game is hard fought and comes down to the wire and this year was no different.

Dogs fend off Elton in tight contest

ELTON – The Jennings Bulldogs fought off a feisty Elton Indians team at Oris Guidry Gymnasium Monday night. The Dogs held on late to claim a 52-48 victory in front of a packed house. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 4-1, while the Indians fell to 6-4 overall.
