Many parish residents observed the interesting orange hue of Sunday night’s full moon, also known as the hunger moon. Native American Tribes created the nickname for the moon and it signifies when food resources were scarce during the late winter months.

DOTD to install all-way stop

LACASSINE — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced an allway stop will be installed at the intersection of U.S. 90 and La. 101, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, weather permitting. Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on U.S. 90 will be stopped by new stop signs at its intersection with La. 101. These changes are being implemented to reduce crashes and increase safety.

Valentine's at SWLA War Veteran's Home

The Jefferson Davis Republican Women were joined by the LSUE senior nursing students to bring valentines and cookies to the veterans at the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home, on Friday, February 16. This is the annual valentines project for the JDRW, and a community service project for the students. They gathered earlier in the day to assemble the bags of cookies, and students from Jennings Elementary School and the student nurses provided the valentines. Both groups enjoyed the event as much as the veterans did.
